Mrs Angela Banner (Head Teacher)

Broadfield Specialist School caters for pupils with generic learning difficulties. All our pupils have a Statement of Special Educational Needs. Our age-range is from 11 to 19 and we currently have 134 pupils in school.

In September 2006 we were awarded Specialist School Status for Special Educational NeedsCognition and Learning. We gained re-accreditation in 2010.

The school staff consists of Headteacher and two Deputy Headteachers (one who is in charge of our Further Education Department and one who is also our Director of Specialist School) and two Assistant Headteachers. One of our teachers is an ‘Advanced Skills Teacher for ICT' and several staff have SEN and other specialist qualifications, including 2 specialist teachers for autism. We have co-ordinators for Cognition & Learning, Movement Opportunities, Outdoor Education and Connecting Communities, along with subject specific co-ordinators. We have many qualified Teaching Assistants, school technician support, a Business Manager, 3 office staff, a full time Nurse, 2 part-time cleaners and one Site Supervisor. We currently have 75 staff in total.

The school is organised into 3 departments – Key Stage 3, 4 and a Further Education Department. Some class groups follow a creative curriculum. Most class groups are taught by subject specialist teachers.

Pupils in Key Stages 3 & 4 follow the National Curriculum, just as young people in any secondary school. Pupils in Further Education follow a destination led Gateways Curriculum. Pupils also have their individual learning needs addressed through creative curriculum approaches and all learning is highly differentiated to meet individual needs. We have a nurture group ‘Rocksteady’ and a Boxall Profile qualified teacher in school. We have a trained member of staff who carries out ‘Sensory Profiling’.

We have excellent inclusion links for our pupils with two mainstream secondary schools so that our pupils all have the opportunity to experience mainstream education. We also have links with local colleges and training providers. We have a choir and a band who play keyboard, guitar and samba drums.

Through the review process, we work with parents in order to establish learning targets for all our pupils which are then included in individual programmes and plans. The school works closely with other professionals, such as speech therapist, psychologist, and other support staff, through a multi-disciplinary approach based on teamwork. We are committed to safeguarding and protecting our pupils in all aspects and adults working in school have enhanced criminal clearance. Our staff team are skilled and dedicated.

Our school Mission Statement is TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) – an ideal to which we are all committed.

We have had continuous ‘INVESTOR IN PEOPLE’ status since 1996 and an Outstanding Ofsted Inspection Report in October 2007 stated that…… ‘This is an outstanding school that makes a vibrant contribution to the community and gives excellent value for money’. We have FLAGSHIP Status for being a healthy school.

Broadfield Specialist School is a forward thinking school with a vibrant and exciting future!

Here are some photos from our nativity performance, which this year was 'Nativity Rocks'.

Teachers2Parents Texting Service

|

As many of you will be aware, we have recently introduced a texting service for notifying about bad weather, school closure, school events, etc.

If you are a contact for a child at Broadfield School and haven't yet had a text from our head teacher, Mrs Angela Banner, then this means that we don't have your mobile number as a contact for your child.

If you would like to receive texting updates, please send a note with your childs name, your name, your relationship to the child and your mobile number and we will be sure to update your details.

The Official School Opening

|

Much fun was had with all at our official school opening.  Being a new GLD school in an older building isn't easy, but we have settled in well and put on quite a show with our new staff and pupils for our very special guests.

We'd like to thank everyone who was involved on the day and also our very special guests for coming along to celebrate our new school with us.

Below are some of the photos that were taken during the day. Alternatively, you can visit The Official School Photo Lightbox page to see them in a bit more detail.

New Website!

|

Welcome to the NEW Website for Broadfield Specialist School!

We're busy transferring over all the data from our old site, so please bear with us.

The site has been developed using the LGFL Content Management System so that, as a school with an Advanced Skills Teacher for ICT, we can advise other schools through that role and schools can gain the same input and advice from the Westfield Centre.

Please do come back and look for new features as they arrive.  We will endeavour to keep the site up to date with school activities, newsletters and term dates.

If you have any suggestions for items you would like to see on the site to make it easier for you to use and/or get hold of parent information, please don't hesitate to get in touch using the details on the contact page.
